Parish Center: La Santa Cruz

Our Parish Church was dedicated on on the feast of the Holy Cross, May 3rd, 1956. Records show 10 baptisms that day. There have been nearly 20,000 since.

Legend says that the walls fell three times during construction, hence the name "La Santa Cruz " (Holy Cross).

We have 4 Sunday Masses usually to overflow crowds: 07:00, 09:00, 18:00 and 19:30.

Our evening weekday Mass (19:00) also typically fills the Church. We have the advantage of a good location, ample parking space and lots of faithful devoted to the Eucharist.

The present church has stood solid for nearly 50 years now, but has become way too small, seating only about 250. We hope to build a church big enough for a thousand to attend Mass. See Projects.

This is part of a complete rebuilding of the parish center. A new Rectory was dedicated in August of 2001. We are presently building a new Pastoral Center with parish offices and halls for catechism and other groups. Once the new Church is built, the old one will be converted to a large auditorium.

We have is a small clinic with general medicine, pediatrics, gynecology and dentistry.

Our parish school operates in two shifts with grades 1-12 in both, 2 classrooms for each grades, about 2000 students in all. The morning session is a private Catholic School: Tuition is $33.ºº monthly, under direct parish administration. The afternoon session is a "Convenio" school: Administrative and Teacher salaries are paid by the government, but we have the right to intervene if need be. An agreement with the parents association allows a $2.ºº - $3.ºº fee to be charged, most of which goes to aument teacher salaries in exchange for not participating in the constant strikes typical of public school teachers.

Se dedicó el Templo y erigió la Parroquia el 3 de Mayo, 1958. Se celebró 10 bautismos ese mismo día, y casí 20,000 desde entonces.

El P. José Walijewski contaba que las paredes se cayeron tres veces durante la construcción, y por eso eligieron el nombre de "La Santa Cruz".

Hay 4 Misas Dominicales a horas: 07:00, 09:00, 18:00 y 19:30. Durante la semana se celebra la Misa a las 19:00 horas. Es común ver a muchos fieles paradas afuera, ya que la capilla es relativamente pequeña con una capacidad de 250 personas. Por este motivo queremos construir un nuevo templo más amplio. Una vez terminada el centro pastoral, actualmente en construcción, se podrá domolir la casa y oficinas viejas para dar paso a un templo amplio: Ver Projects

El templo actual será convertido en un salón-auditorio para concentraciones pastorales grandes.

La parroquia cuenta con un centro médico con Medicina General, Pediatría, Ginecología, laboratorio, y atención dental. Funciona de lunes a viernes: horas 08:00 a 12:00 y 15:00-18:00.

El Colegio Parroquial "La Santa Cruz", ubicado en el corazón del barrio, es particular en la mañana y fiscal "de convenio" en la tarde. Ambos turnos ofrecen los cursos de primaría y secundaria, con dos aulas para cada curso. El terreno, el immueble y los muebles son todos propiedad de la parroquia. El turno de la tarde funciona como una especie de colaboración de la Parroquia al Estado de Bolivia.

Tuición en la Mañana es de $33.ºº.

Por la tarde, según un acuerdo con la junta escolar, se cobra Bs. 15 en Primaria y Bs. 20 en Secundaria, para aumentar el sueldo de los profesores y ayudar con el mantenimiento de las instalaciones.
